8 shocking tips for smart electricians

You have to do your job on time, but a dead man pays nothing. Be sure to follow these 8 tips and you will avoid careless mistakes that can occur when taking electrical measurements:

NEVER work on a live circuit. De-energize whenever you can. If you must work on a circuit with a current, be sure to wear insulating gloves, take off metal jewelry like watches, stand on something isolated like a rubber mat and wear your fire-resistant clothing.

Don't be cheap and exchange the original fuse with a poor replacement. Today's Fluke digital multimeters have a special sand fuse that will break before a surge hits your hand. Be sure to replace them with authorized fuses. And please, for God's sake, don't be lazy and fix a broken fuse with a piece of wire or some scrap metal. If you are a good electrician in pleasant hill, your career (and your life) are worth much more than the time you will save with this dangerous careless work. It will do well to have additional fuses on hand to avoid the danger of unstoppable overload. If you are going to invest in a good DMM like a Fluke, you can easily pay for the fuses. Just keep them in your glove compartment or something.

Do not forget your safety glasses in your pocket. They don't look silly like old-fashioned glasses, so your eyes will thank you for years of good work if you protect them. It is also good to wear them with your fire resistant clothing and insulating gloves.

Keep one hand out of the test. This is crucial when you work on a live circuit. Use the old saying and keep one hand in your pocket. You are more likely to close the circuit through your chest and fry your heart if you touch it with both hands, so place the meter if you can (or even hang it carefully). Do not hold the meter in your hands to minimize exposure.

Pay attention to your leads. This is important for the safety of the DMM. The cables of your digital multimeter must match the CAT level of your work. Choose double insulated cables, finger guards, wrapped cables and an easy-to-grip non-slip surface.
